Key Responsibilities
Develop and review structural health monitoring strategies for buildings, bridges, industrial structures, and infrastructure assets.
Evaluate monitoring plans, sensor specifications, measurement parameters, and data collection requirements.
Analyze structural response data from strain gauges, accelerometers, displacement sensors, inclinometers, load cells, tiltmeters, and other monitoring instruments.
Review vibration, deformation, settlement, stress, displacement, and temperature measurements to assess structural behavior.
Evaluate structural performance trends under operational loads, environmental conditions, and changing service requirements.
Identify unusual patterns, measurement anomalies, and potential indicators of structural deterioration or damage.
Review modal analysis, natural frequency, damping, and vibration characteristics to support structural condition assessments.
Assess long-term monitoring datasets to identify changes in structural response and potential performance concerns.
Interpret data from automated monitoring systems, remote sensing technologies, and structural instrumentation platforms.
Support the development of threshold values, alert criteria, and escalation procedures for monitored assets.
Review sensor calibration records, data quality reports, measurement uncertainty, and monitoring system performance.
Evaluate structural monitoring data against design assumptions, engineering models, historical baselines, and applicable technical criteria.
Coordinate remotely with field inspection teams to clarify sensor locations, installation records, measurement conditions, and reported observations.
Prepare technical assessments, monitoring summaries, trend analyses, and structural performance reports.
Support risk-based maintenance planning by identifying assets or structural components requiring further engineering assessment.
Review finite element analysis outputs and other structural modeling results alongside monitoring data.
Investigate monitoring system interruptions, inconsistent measurements, sensor drift, and data integrity issues.
Recommend improvements to sensor placement, monitoring frequency, data acquisition processes, and reporting methods.
Support the integration of structural monitoring information into asset management and predictive maintenance systems.
Review contractor and specialist reports relating to structural instrumentation, monitoring installations, and condition assessments.
Contribute to technical audits, monitoring program reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate technical records, analysis files, monitoring histories, and controlled documentation.
